Health Insurance Cards: A UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) gives you the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in the European Union (EU). It is not a replacement for travel insurance, and it does not cover the cost of repatriation or the many other eventualities provided for by comprehensive travel insurance. You can find out more about the scheme and apply for a card free of charge here. Your GHIC will have an expiry date so make sure your GHIC hasn’t expired before you travel.

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is no longer available; it has been replaced by the Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). For those who have an existing EHIC, it is still valid up to its expiry date.
