Skiing Val Thorens and The 3 Valleys

Snow can be guaranteed throughout the season with Val Thorens being Europe’s highest resort, the highest point being 3,230m. The Val Thorens ski pass covers the slopes in both Val Thorens and Orelle. This is an area of approximately 169km of pisted runs plus ample of off-piste for the more advanced skiers and boarders. There is a great selection of runs from green to black to keep all abilities happy. The snow parks have been designed to cater for all abilities. The nursery slopes are free and equipped with 3 covered moving carpets to get you up to the top without the need for walking up hill with your skis.

There are many lively bars and restaurants on the slopes such as The Folie Douce and Bar 360 for some après ski drinks and dancing followed by the live bands and acts in the town centre bars. Val Thorens boasts the largest night club in the Alps called ‘Malaysia’ which also has live bands playing. The après ski and activities of things to do other than skiing are wide, varied and among the best in the Alps.

When the ski lift links are open access to Les Menuires, Méribel, Courchevel and La Tania offer you the largest ski area in the World for a daily or weekly supplement. It’s great to ski down to Meribel then cross the valley and ski to Courchevel for lunch. The tree-lined slopes of La Tania are well worth a visit but make sure you catch the last lift back to Val Thorens!

The 3 Valleys is the largest interconnected ski area in the World with approx 600km of interconnected pistes and extensive off-piste terrain. There is enough skiing to keep the most adventurous skier or snowboarder happy, as well as having plenty of relatively easy blue pistes so the intermediates in the group can enjoy it.

The Belleville Valley is home to Saint Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires and Thorens which is the highest altitude ski resort in Europe. From the Belleville Valley you can also make a little trip into the largely unexplored ‘Orelle’ valley, (known locally as the 4th Valley!) There are several snow parks in the Belleville valley.

Meribel which is in the centre of the 3 Valleys. It can get a little busy at peak times, but there are ways to avoid the crowds and ski some of the fantastic pistes, such as Mont Vallon. Freestyle skiers should check out the Snowpark Area DC.

Many of our guests enjoy a full 3 Valleys day and head over into Courchevel – Moriond being the furthest away but home to some nice cruising blue runs. Ski down into La Tania and take an affordable lunch break at one of the many snack bars/restaurants with outside seating if the weather is nice.

  • 600km interconnected pistes
  • Over 85% of the ski area is situated above 1,800m
  • 166 ski lifts
  • More than 2,300 snow canons, covering 50% of the ski area
