Resort Information

Les Menuires sits at an altitude of 1,850m and is a ski-in/ski-out resort. It also links directly to the worlds largest ski resort, the 3 Vallées, gaining access to a total of 600km of piste and even more off-piste. It is fair to say you will struggle to find less than a 4 star review for this resort as it caters for people that come from all walks of life. It really does offer something to cater for everybody, on and off the slopes… And speaking of catering, the resort features a whopping 48 restaurants.

An interesting fact about Les Menuires in case you are wondering about the standard of skiing, the resort hosted the men’s slalom alpine skiing event at the 1992 winter Olympics, and from our own personal experience we would definitely say the resort has developed and grown in magnitude since this event.

The resort also has an abundance of activities including aqua fun, a pool with waves, massage jets, a specifically designed children’s area. There is also a wellness centre which is open to adults with baths, jacuzzi and saunas. Speed Mountain is a 1,000m long alpine roller-coaster, the longest in the French Alps, with twists, turns, descents and raised bends. The large leisure centre has swimming pools, sauna, jacuzzi, steam room, fitness classes, sports courts and fitness suite. In here you will also find a play centre for children aged 12 years and under with trampolines, bouncy castles, ball ponds. The cinema has 2 screens which both have 2 showings per night.

Skiing Les Menuires and The 3 Valleys

Beginners – Les Menuires has been working to improve its provision for beginners, and now has one of the best nursery slope areas in world skiing, thanks to the creation of a separated-off area in the Tortolet area at the heart of the ski area. This has a state-of-the-art carpet conveyor lift, the easiest to use for first timers, operating free of charge. Once you’re ready to leave the park there’s a low-priced beginners only lift ticket too which covers key lifts in the wider area around the resort.

The lift company has an excellent section of their website where it suggests a day by day list of itineraries a beginner skier could progress through during a week in Les Menuires.

Intermediate – Les Menuires sits in the middle of the largest valley within the largest lift-linked ski area in the world, with more than 200 blue & red runs to choose from, so it would be difficult for it to be anything but an amazing place for the recreational skier to enjoy. Long cruising runs up to 8km (five miles) long are among the big choice of descents to be found, with the local lift network including half-a-dozen high capacity chairlifts.

There are 160km (100 miles) of runs around Les Menuires alone, more than the majority of resorts offer, so you may wish to save about 20% on your lift pass bill and just buy a local area pass. However, more determined intermediates may feel frustrated to keep taking the lift up to the ridge with runs leading down into Meribel’s Valley, and not having the requisite 3 Valleys pass to be able to ski down and get the lift back up.

If you’d like a more relaxed day on the slopes the local lift company recently launched a ‘use anytime’ four-hour pass costing about 25% less than a day pass. The ticket is activated as soon as you board your first lift.

Advanced – The 3 Valleys area offers challenging variety for the advanced skier, both on and off piste. The closest steep slopes to the resort are found on Le Masse which is predominantly black and red piste terrain.

Popular routes include heading to Méribel via Tougnete. Take the black Ecureuil & Chevreuil pistes then climb up to Roc de Fer using the Roc de Fer and Olympic chaiflifts to join the famous black run ‘Face’.

If you want to make the outing a bit longer and wind your way through the forest, take the pistes Villages and Raffort and then the Olympe 3 chairlift to get back to Méribel Alpina.

Snowboard / Freestyle Skiing – Along with vast amount of great freeriding terrain and the excess of opportunities in the wider 3 Valleys, Les Menuires has an extra fun park aimed at all ages and stages – the BK Park which is accessed by the Becca chairlift.

The park has three zones. The first, named Roller Coaster, has easy and intermediate level runs each with one or two jumps and four rails, as well as a boardercross and freestyle area.

The second, named ‘The Slide’ has a second boardercross course at intermediate standard, while the third, called Mini Rodeo has small rails, jumps and tabletops as well as a boardercross that families can enjoy as much as hardcore freestylers.

The 3 Valleys is the largest interconnected ski area in the World with approx 600km of interconnected pistes and extensive off-piste terrain. There is enough skiing to keep the most adventurous skier or snowboarder happy, as well as having plenty of relatively easy blue pistes so the intermediates in the group can enjoy it.

The Belleville Valley is home to Les Menuires and Val Thorens, the highest altitude ski resort in Europe. From the Belleville Valley you can also make a little trip into the largely unexplored ‘Orelle’ valley, (known locally as the 4th Valley!) There are several snow parks in the Belleville valley.

Meribel which is in the centre of the 3 Valleys. It can get a little busy at peak times, but there are ways to avoid the crowds and ski some of the fantastic pistes, such as Mont Vallon. Freestyle skiers should check out the Snowpark Area DC.

Many of our guests enjoy a full 3 Valleys day and head over into Courchevel – Moriond being the furthest away but home to some nice cruising blue runs. Ski down into La Tania and take an affordable lunch break at one of the many snack bars/restaurants with outside seating if the weather is nice.

  • 600km interconnected pistes
  • Over 85% of the ski area is situated above 1,800m
  • 166 ski lifts
  • More than 2,300 snow canons, covering 50% of the ski area
  • 327 ski runs:
    49 green runs (15%)
    135 blue runs (41%)
    110 red runs (34%)33 black runs (10%)
