Resort Information
Les Contamines-Montjoie dating back hundreds of years started off as a farming village. The mountain pastures which become the ski slopes in winter were used for grazing and farming, they still in are in the summer. The historic aspect of the village has mostly been retained with more than 70% of the old farm buildings having been restored in respect of the local Savoie architecture. It is a family orientated resort with most of its surroundings being a national park.
Les Contamines-Montjoie is around 1.2 hours from Geneva airport, 15 minutes from the Saint-Gervais-les-Bains-Le Fayet Train station and 20 minutes from the A40 motorway (exit 21). It is located near the well known resorts of Chamonix and Megève; it is close to Mont Blanc which means that it is also used for mountain climbing in the summer – please visit our summer site.
The village centre has all you need with bars and restaurants offering varied cuisine from traditional, gourmet, speciality dishes (raclette, fondue and tartiflette), pizzas, crepes. Le Husky and L’Air du Temps are our favourite restaurants! Les Contamines-Montjoie boasts more than 40 shops: supermarkets, a bakery, cake shops, a butcher, regional produce, sports shops, souvenir shops, a newsagent, gift shops and a chemist to name a few. There are 2 banks, a post office, the Town Hall, and the Tourist Information Office.
There is an outdoor ice rink and children’s play park near the village centre next to the river area. The ice rink is open daily 10am-12pm and 4.30-6.30pm – these times can change depending on the temperature and also during the school holiday weeks.
There are 2 safe sledging runs in Les Contamines-Montjoie. The slope at The Nordic Park is for children 3-6 years only, it is gentle slope suitable for beginners and can be found close to the Nordic information hut, please check the opening times for this slope. The second slope is by the baby drag lift at The Nivorin; this is suitable for adults and children over 6 years of age.
Each week of the season there is a program of entertainment or ‘animation’ as the locals call it, you will find the list of events in the bars, restaurants and the tourist office. The fountain in the village centre is the focal point of most of the entertainment and there are also activities and shows in Les Hameaux du Lay area. Welcome drinks on Sunday, magic, juggling and fire breathing shows, sledge racing shows to give you an idea of what’s on. On Christmas Eve there is a torch lit descent by the ski instructors followed by Father Christmas travelling around the resort on his sleigh with sweets for the children.

Accommodation
Most self-catered apartments are within a short walk of the ski lift in the area called Les Hameaux du Lay. The apartments are self-contained with kitchenette, bathroom, toilet, secure ski locker and a balcony or terrace. There is a mini-market grocery store, hire shops, a bakery, 2 night bars and a restaurant in Les Hameaux du Lay area. The main village is about 1.2km away. There is free indoor and outdoor parking in Les Hameaux du Lay.

Skiing Les Contamines-Montjoie and Hauteluce
The ski area of Les Contamines-Montjoie and Hauteluce boasts magnificent views over Mont Blanc. There is a skiing height of 1,164m – 2,500m and 47 mostly uncrowded groomed pistes. There is a substantial and varied off-piste terrain, snow park, half pipe and boarder free ride area. There is a nursery slope in the village at Les Loyers, this slope is next to La Galipette crèche and it is also used for night skiing on Tuesdays (and Thursdays in the school holidays). 2 further nursery areas are up at the 2 main gondola stations. The first gondola station is at E’tape which is at 1,470m, this is where you will find the snow garden for beginner children from the age of 4 and the main ESF ski school meeting point. Signal the second gondola station is at 1,900m; you will find another nursery slope and ski school meeting point here.
The Nordic Park situated at the foot of the Dômes de Miage proposes a number of outdoor activities: cross-country skiing with its 25km of groomed trails, biathlon, snow-shoe trails, sleigh rides, dog sled excursions, ice-climbing, walking and heritage tours. The site opens its doors from the beginning of December and there is a fee to access the slopes.
X-Zone areas are for both skiers and snowboarders, there are 3 areas: Loyers X-Zone in the village is the place for free style fans; here you will find a super-pipe renowned for its World Cup status. Tierce X-Zone can be found on Les Tierces slope and boasts a boarder-cross for all levels of ability. Tierces Ludopark is a fun family circuit and can be found between the blue slope Les Coins and the red slope Les Tierces.
Snow records have always been good in Les Contamines-Montjoie due to air currents and location to high peaks, its north and north-east facing slopes catch the first snow of the season and snow fall is typically good right through to mid April. 210 snow machines also ensure optimal snow conditions at the beginning and at the end of season as well as on the busier areas.

Ski Passes
Each ski pass is valid in Les Contamines-Montjoie and Hauteluce ski area and are for 6 days starting on Sunday and ending on Friday. The ski area is fully open from 12 December 2026 – 10 April 2027.
If you require your ski passes for a shorter/long duration or to start/end on different days of the week please ask us for an amended price.

In Les Contamines we work direct with the family owned Ronchail sports, founded in 1936 with 1 store in the centre of town which has been passed down father to son. The Ronchail brothers Thierry and Eric currently run the rental shops and have accumulated a total of 3 stores. They and their staff are always happy to help.
